One of the most commonly asked questions
on the BBQ forum is "What
are the health risks associated with Barbecueing or Smoke-Cooking?"
Well, since this is my webpage, I'll share with you MY philosophy (all
my own opinion) and leave the science to the experts.
Any way you slice it, it comes down to what you want in that mysterious "Quality of Life" discussion. Simply stated, what good is it to live to be 100 if they were 100 crappy years? I'd much prefer to have a few less, but more meaningful ones. This philosophy, along with "Everything in moderation", has led me to NOT WORRY about the minute amount of carcinogens that I MAY be exposing myself to, and enjoy what I am able to WHEN I am able to. In fact, a couple weeks ago, at age 33, I smoked my first cigar (my first anything, really).....and liked it. However, as with everything else, I plan to keep this new cigar-smoking pastime, in moderation. The only thing one should be afraid of in life is "missed opportunities". I'd hate to be an old man who keeps wishing he'd "done this" or "tried that" or wondered "what it would be like if...."
Enjoy your family, treat them as if this could be your last day on earth. Enjoy the things that make you happy (in moderation of course), and you'll be a lot nicer to be around.
Or, to put it this way:
Ever notice how the folks that frequent
HealthFood Stores always look like they could use a good sandwich?
